How to Become a Muslim means convert to Islam, or accept Islam as religion. Whether you’re by birth a Muslim or not, you have to become a Muslim, a good practicing Muslim, because a Muslim is define as the one who submits his/her will to Allah SWT. So the way to submitting the will is Islam. Thus, following Islam is submission to Allah SWT and the followers who follow Islam is called a Muslim.

There are two issues pertaining to become a Muslim i.e. legally or spiritually. We see many a legal Muslims certified by the state and called their Muslim names. But are all of them really practicing Muslims as well? Then the answer is simply NO! They are born Muslim in Muslim house or society, but as for following the commandments of Islam, most of them not even know what Islam want to seek from them.

You can be a legally Muslim, that you’ll be considered Muslim in society. But being just legally Muslim will not prevent you from the hell-fire made by Allah SWT. Allah SWT will not accept you just as legal or by name a Muslim, He SWT will judge you whether you’ve practiced Islam or not. This is so because in Islam, there is no non-practicing Muslim. Same as you can’t say the one is non-practicing vegetarian.

So, the Muslim is one who practices Islam and follows the commands of Allah SWT and His Messenger Prophet Muhammad SAWW. Else, could be considered Muslim legally as per Islamic law, but shall be punished on the resurrection day. On that day, there will not be legal or illegal; all of us will be judge on the bases of our practices.

As for the legal process to become a Muslim, one just need to recite and say the following lines with full conviction and heart, without any pressure or in absent mind. The line are as follow,

I testify “La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasoolu Allah.”

“There is no true god (deity) but God (Allah), and Muhammad is the Messenger (Prophet) of God.”

Once a person says the Testimony of Faith (Shahada) with conviction and understanding its meaning, then he/she has become a Muslim. And Allah SWT says in the Holy Quran,

“Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.” (Quran 3:85)
