What is Stoning of the Devil - Hajj Ritual Performed By Pilgrims Near Mecca

Hajj Guide by Editorial Staff (June 10, 05:09 AM)

After leaving Muzdalifah, pilgrims to reach Mina during hajj where they have to stone to Satan (The image towers of Satan called jamarāt walls) situated at the city of Mina just east of Mecca.

Muslims who intended to do the Hajj, gather in Mina for the sake of stoning of the Devil (Satan) i.e. ramī al-jamarāt. It is one of a series of ritual acts that must be performed in the Hajj by Pilgrims. This is however the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah.

Now you have to pick the stones of different size from Mina plain and stone them towards Jamrat-ul-Aqabah with intention of hitting the devil. While stoning, your face must be towards Pillar (Jamrah – Now a days it is Wall) having Mecca to your left and Mina to his right side.

You have to stone on it with seven small stone similar in size with chick-pea, lit a bit longer. While stoning, you are expected to recite Takbir on throwing each stone as it is one of the rituals of hajj, until you carry on throwing stones, you have to recite on each stone, till the last stone. However, you cannot recite after throwing the last one.

And you cannot perform this stoning of Hajj ritual until after sunrise, with no exception as in the case of Muzdalifah for women and weak. Now after your stoning ritual regarding hajj is complete, you are allowed every which were disallowed on you after assuming Ihram except sexual relationship, even if you have not sacrificed or shaved (Trim – for women) your head hairs yet.
As Prophet SAAW says,

“Verily on this day has been allowed for you, when you have stoned the Jamrah, which was prohibited for you except women (sexual intercourse). Verily on this day everything that you were prohibited from (by ihram) has been allowed for you, when you have stoned the Jamrah, except the women (sexual intercourse) - so if evening comes upon you before you have made Tawaf of this House then you revert to the state of ihram as you were before stoning the Jamrah - until you make the Tawaf.”

So never forget manasik e Hajj as they are the part of your Hajj performing. Different tour operator will also guide you if you forget anything, but that does not mean you should not know the way to perform hajj before. It is not right to think in this way that you have had
Hajj package you corresponding Hajj travelers and you don’t have any duty now.
