Islam Beliefs by Editorial Staff (November 17, 11:18 PM)

Islam and Forgiveness - Seeking forgiveness is a mark of a Muslim in Islam. Indeed Allah SWT to whom belong all praise has bestowed upon us immense grace! Giving us a change to seek forgiveness and repent from the committed sins, whether giant like a mountain, or small like grains.

Seeking forgiveness from Allah SWT in Islam implies on repentance from the previous sins, and repentance refers to the act of leaving what Allah SWT has prohibited and returning to what He has commanded. Forgiveness doesn’t mean to adopt the habit of doing ill jobs (sins) and then say “sorry Allah forgive me” it repeat it as every time as habit. Allah SWT doesn’t accept that time of repentance and will to forgive us. As stated in the Holy Quran,

"and turn you all together in repentance to Allah O Believers, that you may be successful" [Surah-Nur:31]

And in another place in the Holy Quran Allah says about explaining about real forgiveness,

"Surely, Allah loves those who turn unto him in repentance and love those who purify themselves." [2:22]

In aforementioned verses of the Quran, Allah SWT explains the true nature of forgiveness and repentance in Islam. As Allah SWT says the only successful are those who repent from their previous sins and keep seeking forgiveness from their Lord, no matter what conditions and circumstances are, and no matter how much the burden of sins are, because no human being is safe from sins, and no one is infallible except Prophets.

All Allah SWT the most merciful want us to not to adopt the path of disbelievers and sinners again. All our Lord want to see us to purify ourselves from what bad deeds previously we were doing. And it is one of the greatest blessings of Allah SWT upon us that He gave us chance to seek forgiveness and keep repenting, if man stopped repenting to Allah, He would replace us with another creation that would turn to Him for forgiveness. The Prophet Muhammad SAWW said,

"If you did not commit sins, Allah would sweep you out of existence and replace you by another people who would commit sins, ask for Allah's forgiveness and He would forgive them."

So keep seeking forgiveness and repentance even if you thing you didn’t do any sin. May Allah SWT let us keep seeking forgiveness and let us repent and save us from being proud. Amin!
