Staying and Standing In Arafah a Guide to perform hajj

Hajj Guide by Editorial Staff (June 05, 02:40 PM)

There is a mountain in Arafah called Mount of Mercy, in Arabic Jabal ur-Rahmah or Jabal-e-Rehmat. It is to stand upon the rocks beneath the Mount in Arafah, however, if you couldn’t be able to find the place to stand in, you may stand anywhere in Arafah plain.

After finding the appropriate place, do your face toward Qiblah that is Kaba, raise your hands and start making Dua’a and recite Talbiyah. And you are to recite ‘La ilaha illallah' as many time as you can as Prophet Muhammad-e-Mustafa SAAW says,

The best thing that I and the Prophets have said on the evening of ‘Arafah is La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lahu lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay'in qadir

Which means the recitation of aforementioned verses is the best du'a on the Day of ‘Arafah and most recommended, most permissible for the Muslims during their hajj. However, adding Talbiyah occasionally is also permissible while you are standing beneath the rock with directing yourself toward Qiblah.

Moreover, it is not allowed to have Fast in that day i.e. the day of Arafah, as there is Hadith in this issue as once Rasool Allah SAAW was asked about fasting on the day of 'Arafa, whereupon Rasool Allah SAAW replied,

“It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year”

And when Rasool Allah SAAW was asked about fasting on the day of 'Ashura, whereupon he replied

“It expiates the sins of the preceding year”

So the fasting in that particular day is not allowed for Pilgrim (Haji), because it is the Sunnah (Way) and saying of beloved Prophet Muhammad SAAW for the one standing in ‘Arafah not to fast that day, remaining in the state of saying Dua’as, begging forgiveness from All Mighty Allah and hoping from Allah that He will make him one of those whom He boasts of as those whom He frees from Fire. As Rasool Allah SAAW says, in Sahih Muslim, narrated from Amma Aa'ishah R.A,

“There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafah. He comes close and expresses His pride to the angels, saying, 'What do these people want?”
