Famous French singer Diam’s has announced in a newly-published autobiography that she has embraced Islam and decided to wear hijab also.

Diam’s is a famous French rap star. 32-year-old artist said she embraced Islam during a visit to the Mauritius Island in 2008. She wrote a book in which she described her life, hardships, conversion to Islam and reason why choosing to wear hijab etc. in her book she says, “In the height of success I suffered from a major depression and visited different psychologists, but none of them could help me,”

However, her real name wasn’t Diam’s, but Melanie Georgiades. According to her, Diam’s depression was cured by Islamic rituals namely praying and reading the Quran. Melanie Georgiades who recently made her first television appearance wearing hijab, in an interview she said Islam was introduced to her by coincidence, when she saw a Muslim friend praying.

In an interview to private French TV channel namely TF1, she said, "conversion to Islam was the result of a personal conviction, after understanding the religion and reading the Holy Quran.”



However, she not only converted to Islam but she is one of the famous celebrities who embraced Islam on the basis of conviction and the evidences. That is why she not only accepted Islam, but also firmly practicing it by offering five time prayer, reading Quran, wearing Hijab on public places, and by opening a center to support orphans as well.

Melanie Georgiades, Diam’s was not a born Muslim, yet she is better than many of us by birth Muslim whom names are of Islamic, the practices are not. May Allah also let us practice Islam by understanding it true nature! Amin.
