How to Perform Ghusl - A Description for Men & Women

Before going in to detailed procedure of how to perform ghusl one must knows that  What Ghusl is? (for people who are new to this term).

Ghusl is an Arabic term which refers to the method of Islam for taking a bath or washing complete body if an adult loses the stated cleanliness of body on Islam. Ghusl becomes mandatory in some situations which are listed below and one must performs the Ghusl after passing through the situation.

  • After Sexual intercourse

  • Orgasmic Discharge

  • Giving Birth

  • After Death

  • After giving birth

 

You Can Use These type of water for Ghusl

You can perform Ghusl from only given type of water which is the core thing for performing Ghusl, you can use
 

  1. Water of well

  2. Water of rain

  3. Water from spring

  4. Water from sea or river

  5. Water from melting snow or hail

  6. Water from a tank or pond


Types of water forbidden for performing Ghusl

  1. Unclean and impure water

  2. Water left over by after drinking by Haraam animals (Pigs, tigers etc)

  3. Extracted water from fruits or trees

  4. Already used water for Ghusl or wudu

  5. Water that has changed its color, taste or smell

  6. Small quantity of water in which anything unclean has fallen like urine, wine, blood, or any animal died after falling in it.


You can read the following verses to understand the importance of Ghusl in Islam which is taken from Sura “An-Nisa”


An-Nisa Ayat 43
 
Translation
 

“O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah, except those passing through [a place of prayer], until you have washed [your whole body]. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands [with it]. Indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Forgiving.”

 

How to Perform Ghusl

  1. First of all wash your hand up to the wrist of both hands including the spaces between fingers

  2. Wash the private parts so that dirt and filth can be removed from here

  3. Wash off the Nijaasat if present anywhere on the body, after this step you have to perform Wudu

  4. Be sure that your mouth and nostrils are properly rinsed as it is fara’d action while performing Ghusl.

  5. If you are performing Ghusl in a place where water on floor is moving rapidly to waste point then you can perform complete WUDU but if there is a fear that your feet will get immersed with the waste-water then wash your feet at the last of the Ghusl.

  6. Pour the water three times on your head so that it flows over on all of your body.

  7. Now pour water three time on the right shoulder and then three times on the left shoulder.

  8. Now pour water on the entire body, rub the body with your hands to ensure that no part is left dry.

  9. It must be known to all that ensure that not a single hair should be left dry after Ghusl because if this is not achieved the Ghusl will not be valid.

  10. On completion of Ghusl move to a clean place then wash your feet if not washed during Wudu.

Important note

If after Ghusl you recalled that any part of the body is left dry or is partially dry, then you can wash that dry portion. But it is not sufficient to pass only the wet hand over it, if you forget to rinse the mouth and nostrils then you can rinse it when recalled after performing Ghusl.

 

Faraid of Ghusl


Here are the parts of acts which must be performed while performing Ghusl and Ghusl will not be valid if you leave any part of it.

1.       Rinse up the mouth in a way that no part of mouth left dry, & water reaches to every part of mouth.
2.       Rinse up the nostrils such as water reaches the fleshy area of nostrils
3.       Wash your complete body.
 

Sunnah of Ghusl

 
  1. Washing hands up to wrists

  2. Then washing private parts of body to remove dirt or filthiness

  3. Perform wadu

  4. Then pour water (Three times) on the head so that it flows down on all over the body.

  5. Pour water on the right shoulder (Three times)

  6. Pour water on the left shoulder (Three times)
