Hajj Guide by Editorial Staff (May 28, 10:56 PM)

Literally, Talbiyah is the verbal noun of labbá, meaning to pronounce this prayer as “I will stick to obeying you again and again.” And legal Shara’i explanation of Talbiyah is a prayer invoked by the pilgrims (Hujjaj Karaam) after assuming Ihram as a conviction that they intend to perform the Hajj only for the glory of Allah.

Pilgrims repeatedly repeat Talbiya statement after assuming Ihram during the Hajj. The text of the Talbiyah is as under,

Labbayka Allāhumma Labbayk. Labbayk Lā Sharīka Laka Labbayk. Inna l-Ḥamda, Wa n-Niʻmata, Laka wal Mulk, Lā Sharīka Lak.

"Here I am at Thy service O Lord, here I am. Here I am at Thy service and Thou hast no partners. Thine alone is All Praise and All Bounty, and Thine alone is The Sovereignty. Thou hast no partners."

Pilgrims recite these lines as Talbiyah proven from Prophet Muhammad SAAW. There is no difference of opinion amongst Muslim Scholars regarding Talbiyah statement and all are agreed upon afformentioned statement of Talbiyah, except some of the scholars just add the word “Labbayka” (لَبَّيْكَ) at the end of the full talbiyah statement.

Talbiyah for men and women is equal, it is inevitable to recite Talbiyah loudly in crowed when approaching Mecca and the Kaba. However, it is not forbidden to add something in Talbiyah which remains in line with it. Such as Prophet’s SAWW saying,

“labbaika dhal ma'arij, labbaika dhal fawadil”.

"of the Ways of Ascent, Here I am Owner of Excellence."

And Ibn Umer RA used to say,

“labbaika wa sa'daika wal khairu biyadaika war-raghabaa'u ilaika wal `amalu”

"Here I am and blessed by You, and all good is in Your Hands, and desire and action are directed towards You"

Following we are giving Talbiyah statement even in Arabic so that you could be able to learn it, because all the Pilgrims must know how to recite Talbiyah in order to conceive the Hajj.
