Belief in Oneness of Allah is the basis of Islam. This belief leads to belief in angels, books, prophets, pre-destination and divine decree as well as the Day of Judgment. Then the pillars of Islam set in to complete the faith of a Muslim. If you want to know more about the religion of Islam, then read on for more information about Islam.

A Muslim lives collectively with others in a community and is accountable for their deeds individually to Allah on the Day of Judgment. Islam laid emphasis on both community life and individual responsibility. The life of a Muslim revolves around the concept of God; A Muslim accepts that Allah is the sovereign, and man is His servant.

Family is the primary unit of the society. It nurtures the younger generation with love and affection. To maintain discipline in the family, man is assigned the role of leadership. Islam declares men as protectors of the family.

The Quran says, "Men are the protectors and maintainers of women" (4:34)

Islam prohibits sexual relationships outside marriage and prescribes severe punishments to those who violate the laws of Allah. Modesty is an emblem of Islam, and it must be observed by both men and women in all aspects of their lives and community. The limited family circle widens to include other members, parents, brothers, sisters, relatives, neighbours and the less fortunate members of the society.

Allah says in the Holy Quran, "Serve Allah and join not any partners with Him: and do good to partners, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours" (24:30-31)

After family and neighbors, the circle of relationships widens to cover the entire community. Islam establishes brotherhood amongst the Muslims. All Muslims are brothers to one another. They are commanded several places in Quran to be kind, merciful to one another; to establish justice, greet others with peace, feed the needy, and remove any differences of their Muslim brothers in case of disagreement.

The pillars play a pivotal role in strengthening ties between the communities. Muslim prays in congregation which infuses social discipline among Muslims, as all stand shoulder to shoulder while praying removing all kinds of barriers amongst them. The rich pay Zakat to the poor and needy, which further strengthens the society and narrows the gap between the poor and the rich.

Fasting is performed in the month of Ramadhan all over the world; it brings the Muslim community closer to each other. Those who can afford the journey to Hajj, Muslims assemble in Kabbah every year from every part of the world, Seek Allah's forgiveness.

The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, "Worship Allah and do not associate anything with him, establish prayer, pay Zakat, observe the fast of Ramadan and perform Hajj to the (sacred) House (Kaabah)" (Tirmidhi)

Every Muslim is to commend what is right or good (amr-bi’l –ma’ruf) and forbid what is bad and evil (ai’-nahy an’l-munkar). He must spread good virtues and discourage and remove evil from society.

The Prophet Mohammad (p.b.u.h) said, "Whosoever of you sees an evil action, let him change with his hand, and if he not able to do so then with his tongue, and if he not able to so then with his heart, and that is the weakest of all faith" (Muslim)
