Word Muslim is an Arabic word referred to one who has embraced Islam as one’s religion by birth or converted, also written as Moslem and sometimes to females as Muslimah. The literal meaning of the word Mus-lim (ˈməzləm,ˈmo͝oz-,ˈmäz-) are "one who submits (to God)".

Different dictionaries define the word Muslim in different ways according to the different age, type and professions. For the kids, the word Muslim as noun defined as a person whose religion is Islam. However, some of the different meanings taken from different dictionaries are given as follow.

  1. A person whose religion is Islam

  2. A follower of Islam

  3. an adherent of Islam

  4. one who submits (to God)

however, The word "Moslem" is inappropriate in both spelling and meaning, as there is a word in Arabic, "mozlum" which means a "wrongdoer" or "oppressor" and does not come from the same root. So it will not be appropriate to use the word “Moslem” instead to “Muslim” as “Moslem” is near to pronounce the Arabic word “Mozlem” which has nothing to do with the meaning of the word “Muslim”, because both "Muslim" and "Islam" come from the same root: "S", "L", "M" (silm).

Anyone on the earth or anywhere, who believes in the One God (Allah SWT) of Adam, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, Jesus and Prophet Muhammad SAWW as His last Messenger and Prophet, (peace be upon them all) and is trying to do what the Commandments of Allah SWT has ordered them to do and trying to stay away from the things the Commandments of Allah order them to stay away from, is very much a Muslim, by both definition and intent.
